400 KG Silver Case: several officers found guilty including Karam Elahi

The FIA has intensified its investigation into the alleged theft and sale of 400 kg of silver and goods worth more than Rs 2 billion, while the case has been handed over to higher authorities.

According to sources, several influential and corrupt officers are involved in this scandal, including Collector of Customs Quetta Karam Elahi, while more arrests are expected in the next few days.

According to the details, a few weeks ago, some corrupt officers posted under the alleged patronage of Collector Customs Quetta Karam Elahi had stolen 400 kg of silver and confiscated goods worth more than Rs 2 billion and sold them to smugglers.

When the matter came to light, the Chairman FBR took immediate action and registered an FIR and arrested two inspectors. Later, on the instructions of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, the case was handed over to the FIA, where a special investigation committee was formed under the leadership of Additional DG FIA.

According to the initial investigation report, Collector Quetta Karam Elahi, through Inspector Zaman Mazari of Rukni Warehouse, Inspector Masood Jamali of Lakpas Warehouse and Ahmed Nawaz Zaidi of Dalbadin Warehouse, disappeared goods worth billions of rupees and sold them to smugglers.

According to sources, PO Kashim Mushtaq, PO Qamar Abbas and Asif Khan Peshawari also played a role as front men in this alleged illegal activity.

Investigative sources say that Collector Karam Elahi was also assisted by an influential close relative, who is posted in a government post in Quetta, while the alleged backing of a senior officer has also been revealed. The FIA also detained the father and brother of a major smuggler, who made important revelations about the alleged role and share of various officers during the investigation.

According to sources, some officers are still trying to save Collector Quetta Karam Elahi and an attempt is being made to end the case by holding one smuggler responsible for the entire matter. Sources further said that after solid evidence came to light, the Quetta Collector allegedly confessed to the crime and offered the FIA officials that if they were given safe passage, they could recover 400 kg of silver.

According to FIA sources, after the completion of the initial report, permission has been sought from higher authorities to register a formal case against all the accused so that the involved elements can be brought to justice.

Public and social circles have demanded that the Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Chairman FBR take strict and indiscriminate action against the corrupt officers involved in the alleged theft of goods worth billions of rupees and 400 kg of silver.
