The crisis of global warming and water scarcity around the
world is becoming serious, but now a paint has been developed that will prevent
both these problems.
It should be noted that it is difficult to live without an
air conditioner (AC) in hot weather, but in most places, due to load shedding
or lack of AC or lack of financial capacity, it is not possible to use this
cool machine.
This is why scientists are working on alternative
technologies that will eliminate the need for AC. Scientists Chiara Neto and
Ming Zhou from the University of Sydney, Australia, have developed a nano-paint
that, if used on the roof, not only cools the building but also stores water
from the air.
Buildings around the world are made of concrete, and roofs
absorb more solar energy, which makes the heat inside the building feel more
intense. The company's goal was to develop a paint that would significantly
reduce the heat of the sun in cities.
To this end, they developed a white paint made of
nanomaterials that absorbs the sun's heat and releases it back into the sky,
which helps keep the surface of the roof cooler than the surrounding air,
without requiring electricity.
Ordinary commercial white paint reflects 70 to 80 percent of
the sunlight, but the paint produced by Dew Point is capable of reflecting 96
percent of the light.
In this way, this paint absorbs very little heat and keeps
the roof surface 6 degrees Celsius cooler than the surrounding air.
This roof was tested in Sydney for 3 months in 2023, and it
was discovered that the temperature inside the building on which it was used
remained cooler than a traditional dark-colored roof, resulting in a 34 percent
reduction in AC use.
But another great feature of this paint is that it not only
cools the building without AC, but also stores water. It has the ability to
store moisture in the air in the form of water.
In the experimental stages, this system collected 74 liters
of water per day. This is not a replacement for a traditional water supply, but
it helps to some extent in overcoming water shortages.
According to the company, you will be able to buy this paint
in the future and use it on your roof. The company is planning various clinical
trials to test this paint, after which it will be offered for sale on a
commercial basis.
