Peshawar: Chief
Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi wrote a letter to the Chief Justice
of the Supreme Appellate Court of Gilgit-Baltistan.
According to
sources, in the letter, he requested to ensure transparency in the upcoming
elections. Sohail Afridi requested the Chief Justice for immediate judicial
intervention.
The text
also stated that the electoral environment in Gilgit-Baltistan is extremely
worrying, a political party is facing obstacles in political activities, public
gatherings, election campaigns and the movement of its leadership.
The letter
said that there are reports of harassment and illegal arrests of political
workers. If these measures are not stopped, the credibility and transparency of
the electoral process can be seriously damaged.
On the other
hand, he also clarified in the text of the letter that the constitution gives
every political party the right to participate in free, fair, transparent and
impartial elections. The Chief Justice should direct the relevant authorities
to ensure the holding of clean and transparent elections.
