Istanbul: Turkish defense company Aselsan has introduced
advanced maritime drones, including an unmanned surface vehicle called ‘Tofan’.
The company introduced this advanced drone at the ongoing
SAHA 2026 defense exhibition in Istanbul. According to the company, this drone
is designed for autonomous combat operations at sea and can perform
reconnaissance and intelligence missions along with attack.
This 8.1-meter-long drone is powered by a petrol engine and
water jet propulsion, which gives it the ability to move faster and more
quickly and enables it to be quickly deployed near the coast and in the open
sea.
According to the report, the prominent feature of ‘Tofan’ is
its ‘swarm intelligence’ and advanced automation capabilities. The system can
operate alone or in a group, in which different subgroups can simultaneously
perform missions such as surveillance, reconnaissance and attack.
It also includes the ability to identify targets through
automated navigation, obstacle avoidance and vision-based systems.
‘Tofan’ is equipped with a high-explosive warhead, which allows it to hit surface targets, coastal installations and important military assets.
