Inauguration of “Romania Shelf” in Islamabad, a new development in the cultural relations between Pakistan and Romania

Islamabad: In a major effort to further strengthen the cultural ties between Pakistan and Romania, the “Romania Shelf” was inaugurated at the National Library of Pakistan in Islamabad. The initiative aims to familiarize Pakistani readers with the history, literature, arts and cultural heritage of Romania.

The inauguration ceremony was held on the occasion of the visit of Romanian Ambassador Dr. Dan Stoianescu to the National Library, where he presented a special donation of various academic and literary books from Romania to Director General Muhammad Ali Shahzad Muzaffar and his team.

These books have been published by the Romanian cultural institution “ICR Publishing House” and include several important works based on the history, literature, art and cultural heritage of Romania. Through these books, Pakistani students, researchers and readers will get the opportunity to get to know the intellectual and cultural world of Romania closely.

Speaking on the occasion, Romanian Ambassador Dr. Dan Stoianescu said that libraries are not just a repository of books, but they are a means of communication and mutual understanding between different nations and cultures. According to him, the “Romania Shelf” established at the National Library of Pakistan is actually an open invitation to discover the culture, creativity and intellectual heritage of Romania.

He said that cooperation in the fields of education, culture and intellectual exchange is an important pillar of the relations between Romania and Pakistan, which will be further expanded in the future.

During the visit, the Romanian Ambassador and the Director General of the National Library also discussed the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National Library of Pakistan and the National Library of Romania. The proposed agreement will provide a formal framework for the exchange of publications, expertise and cultural activities between the two institutions.

The event was also attended by Deputy Head of Mission of the Romanian Embassy Edward Preda, renowned Romanian soprano Georgiana Costeia Gloga, Coordinator of Opera Courses at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA), Member of the National Assembly Syeda Nousheen Iftikhar and other dignitaries.

The establishment of the Romanian Shelf is being described as a manifestation of the shared commitment between the two countries to promote people-to-people contacts and strengthen mutual understanding through culture and education. The Romanian Embassy in Islamabad hopes that this cultural partnership will be further expanded in the coming years.
