Islamabad: Senator Faisal Vawda severely criticized the auto
policy, revealing corruption worth Rs 100 billion in the local production of
vehicles.
According to details, a meeting of the Senate Standing
Committee on Finance was held, in which Senator Faisal Vawda revealed that
corruption worth Rs 100 billion is being committed in the name of local
production of vehicles in the country and a few companies have a monopoly. Expressing
his views in the meeting, Senator Faisal Vawda severely criticized the auto
policy of the Ministry of Industries and Production.
He said that only 4 companies have a monopoly on the
automobile sector in the country and in the current auto policy, the Secretary of
Industries is not ready to listen to anyone. Senator Vawda further said that
the current government policy is clearly designed to give an unfair advantage
to a particular company.
He raised the question in the meeting that who has given the
authority to the Engineering Department Board to make the safety standards of
vehicles by themselves? He revealed that the Ministry of Science and Technology
itself has written that the Engineering Development Board has no such authority
in the matter of vehicle policy.
During the meeting, before the Standing Committee, the Secretary
of Commerce told the Committee that the Economic Coordination Committee has
formally assigned the authority to the Ministry of Industry and Production to
formulate rules and laws in this regard.
Secretary of Science and Technology informed the meeting
that his ministry has also prepared 36 security standards to ensure the quality
and safe production of vehicles in the country.
Taking notice of the seriousness of the matter, the Standing
Committee has sought more details regarding the auto policy and safety
standards from the concerned institutions.
