Islamabad: Pakistan Customs has destroyed seized contraband
worth Rs 800 million in Islamabad after completing legal proceedings.
According to Pakistan Customs, liquor, mobile phones,
cigarettes and other smuggled goods were destroyed as per regulations at the
Islamabad Dry Port.
The spokesperson said that the zero-tolerance policy against
smuggling is being strictly implemented, as smuggling is a serious threat to
the national economy, local industry and legitimate businesses. Pakistan Customs
clarified that indiscriminate actions will continue against organized smuggling
networks, and strict action will be taken against elements involved in illegal
trade as per the law.
According to the spokesperson, intelligence-based
anti-smuggling operations are being further accelerated and the enforcement
system, along with border surveillance, is also being made more effective.
Pakistan Customs reiterated its commitment to continue
effective and indiscriminate operations to protect the national treasury and
eliminate all forms of smuggling.
