Islamabad: The Chief Justice of Pakistan is the highest-paid
public official in the country. According to official documents, under the
Order No. 2 of 2023 of the President of Pakistan, the monthly basic salary of
the Chief Justice has been fixed at Rs 1.229 million, from July 1, 2023, while
other judges of the Supreme Court are paid a monthly salary of Rs 1.161
million.
According to records, before the 2023 increase, the Chief Justice's basic salary was Rs 1.024 million. However, in the past, some
reports presented before the Public Accounts Committee also mentioned Rs 1.527
million per month, which most likely included various allowances and other
financial incentives.
In addition to the basic salary, the Chief Justice is also
provided with various government facilities and special incentives. These
include an official residence, two official vehicles, including a bulletproof
2400 cc and another 1800 cc vehicle, 600 liters of petrol, electricity, gas and
other utility facilities are provided free of charge every month.
Similarly, the Chief Justice is given a house rent allowance, the value of which has varied over time. In addition, a
daily allowance for official visits outside the city and a high judicial
allowance of Rs 428,040 per month are also paid.
Combining all these salaries, allowances and official
facilities, the total monthly financial package of the Chief Justice of
Pakistan reaches about Rs 1.7 million.
On the other hand, according to 2024 data, the monthly
pension of the Chief Justice after retirement is up to Rs 2.39 million. In
addition, in the event of the death of the Chief Justice, his widow is also
entitled to some benefits, including a government driver, orderly, free water,
concessions in certain taxes, telephone allowance, 2000 units of electricity
and 300 liters of petrol per month.
It should be noted that all these salaries, allowances and benefits are determined under the relevant laws, government notifications and rules and regulations and may be changed from time to time.
