Jamaat-e-Islami chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has announced a nationwide protest, accusing the government of ignoring public issues.
While talking to the media in the provincial capital, Hafiz
Naeem-ur-Rehman said that the government has increased the prices of petroleum
products by citing war conditions and the global market. At the same time, the people are
already worried about inflation, high electricity and gas bills.
He claimed that a heavy levy is being collected on petrol
and the government is increasing the burden of taxes on the people. Taxes are
also being collected from people who should not be taxed, while the government
has collected billions of rupees in the form of levy. Still, the desired
improvement has not been achieved in the energy sector and refineries.
The Jamaat-e-Islami chief said that Jamaat-e-Islami is the
political voice highlighting the problems of the common man in the country,
farmers, laborers, youth and the middle class are facing economic difficulties,
while questions are being raised on government spending and benefits.
Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman criticized the IPP agreements and said
that the burden of agreements made with a few companies is being transferred to
the people and reforms are needed in the electricity sector.
Talking about the education system, he said that there is a
lack of quality education in the country and a large number of children are out
of school in various areas including Punjab. According to him, effective
measures are necessary for improvement in the education sector.
The Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami further said that
Jamaat-e-Islami will soon hold protest activities in small and big cities. He
directed the workers and youth to be ready for the future course of action and
said that the government will be forced to review its policies through public
power.
