Islamabad: After the extremely sad incident of newborn
babies burning at the mother and Child Care Hospital of PIMS, all concerned
departments are releasing their initial incident reports.
The hospital administration has released a preliminary
report on the incident at PIMS Hospital.
According to the preliminary report, a fire broke out in the
neonatal ward due to a spark in the wiring, which spread rapidly within
seconds. The fire intensified quickly due to the oxygen outlets on each
incubator. The resulting smoke entered the babies' lungs through the tubing.
The babies died from lack of oxygen and burns.
Two doctors and two nurses on
duty immediately began rescue efforts, while security personnel also arrived
and began evacuating the children.
The report states that at 6:39 a.m., a powerful explosion
occurred, causing the ceiling to collapse. On-duty staff rescued one newborn from the neonatal ward, while four
newborns and three mothers were rescued from the adjacent room.
While the Report released by CDA is totally different
from the report of the Hospital.
According to the CDA report, Security staff of the hospital
created a hindrance to the initial response of the fire crew. Fire and
life-safety arrangements were inadequate and compromised, not as per standard
requirements, while emergency exit routes were found permanently locked from
outside. Inadequate crowd management was observed at the incident site.
After all, PM Shahbaz remove secretary health from his
office, but the question is why the ED of PIMS is still holding his office, as
in reality he is responsible along with all the staff who were on duty at Shift
C.
