Islamabad: The federal government's debt increased by 18.832 billion rupees during the first 28 months of the tenure.
According to documents from the State Bank of Pakistan, the
federal government's domestic debt increased by 16.766 billion rupees and its
external debt by 2.066 billion rupees during the period from March 2024 to June
2026. On average, the debt increased by more than 22.4 billion rupees per day.
According to the documents, the federal government's debt
stood at 64.81 billion rupees in February 2024, the last month of the caretaker
government. Following the increase recorded over the past 28 months, the
federal government's debt rose to 83.642 trillion rupees in June 2026.
According to a document from the State Bank of Pakistan, the
central government's domestic debt was 42.675 trillion rupees in February 2024
and increased to 59.441 trillion rupees in June 2026.
Similarly, the federal government's external debt was 22.134
trillion rupees in February 2024 and increased to 24.201 trillion rupees in
June 2026.
