More than 60 veterans and their families protesting against the Iran war in the US capital, Washington, DC, have been arrested for staging a sit-in at a congressional building.
According to the US news agency, dozens of veterans and
their family members, including people with disabilities, were detained. The
demonstration was held at the Cannon House Office Building, where at least 62
people were arrested.
According to the report, the protest was organized by
several veterans' organizations. The protesters gathered in the main rotunda of
the Cannon Building, where they held red tulips in memory of Iranians killed in
US attacks, and banners such as End of the Iran war were also displayed.
Viral videos on social media showed that the protesters also
held a flag-lowering ceremony, which was intended to pay tribute to the 13
American soldiers who have died in the conflict so far, while anti-war slogans
were also raised.
The report states that the Capitol Police later detained the
protesters with plastic handcuffs and removed them from the scene.
