Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other
politicians are hoping for the failure of the talks in Islamabad. According to
a report by Qatari broadcaster ‘Al Jazeera’, the real motive behind this desire
is that Israel can continue its war not only in Iran but also in Lebanon.
According to the report, the temporary pause in the Iran war
that has come due to the intervention of US President Donald Trump is not liked
by the Israeli government at all because it has been claiming that it is going
to achieve major successes on both the Iran and Lebanon fronts.
The report quoted analysts as saying that the Israeli
government, which previously considered these two fronts separate, now feels
trapped in southern Lebanon, where its hands are tied. Despite this situation,
the series of threats has not stopped.
Recently, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, addressing
Hezbollah Secretary General Naim Qassem, threatened that he would have to pay a
heavy price and that Israel would eliminate him. He added that the Lebanese
government must play its role and disarm Hezbollah to move forward with these
negotiations.
The Israeli government is currently not only demanding that
the Lebanese government disarm Hezbollah, but is also threatening it with
serious consequences if it does not do so. Israeli officials are also well
aware of the deep resentment and anger among the populations of northern Israel
who are constantly being targeted by Hezbollah rocket attacks.
This is why the Israeli government believes that they need
to take more drastic measures.
In the eyes of the Israeli government, these measures mean
keeping its troops stationed in Lebanon, refusing to withdraw from the occupied
territories, and sabotaging any possible agreement that would prevent them from
targeting further targets in Lebanon and Iran.
Israel’s policy shows that it prefers to achieve its goals
through military force rather than peace in the region, which is why the peace
efforts in Islamabad are under threat.
