Islamabad: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has started action against those illegally advertising and selling medicines through online platforms.
According to sources, notices have been issued to 2 to 3
websites selling medicines, some of which have removed the relevant content
after the notice; however, the websites that did not follow the instructions
are likely to be blocked.
According to the PTA, the relevant companies are requested
to remove the content on the illegal sale of medicines through social media and
websites, and about 90 percent of the companies remove the content by following
the instructions.
The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan had also requested
the PTA to take action against websites selling illegal medicines. According to
DRAP, the online sale of unregistered and smuggled medicines is a threat to
public health.
DRAP has clarified that the illegal online sale of medicines
related to sexual health, weight loss and mental illness is prohibited, while
violations can result in fines, confiscation of medicines and legal action.
