Islamabad: Serious allegations of irregularities and
corruption have been made regarding the Pakistani diplomatic mission in
Australia in the issuance of Pakistani visas to Afghan citizens.
According to sources, it has been revealed that visas were
issued to some Afghan citizens despite the instructions issued by the Pakistan
High Commission in Canberra and the requirements of security clearance. It is
being alleged that the prescribed procedures and security screening steps were
ignored in this process.
According to reports, a large number of visas were issued to
Afghan citizens from the office of Pakistan’s Consul General and Trade
Commissioner in Sydney, Qamar Zaman. Some sources claim that contacts and
influence with some travel agents were allegedly used in this regard; however,
these allegations have not been confirmed by any independent organization yet.
It is also being claimed that the issuance of visas
continued without taking into account the reports and objections of some
sensitive organizations. Critics say that if the allegations are true, it would
not only be a violation of immigration and visa policy but could also raise
serious questions about national security.
Affected constituencies and some Pakistani community members
have demanded that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan and the Pakistan
High Commission in Canberra conduct a comprehensive audit of visas issued to
Afghan nationals and conduct a transparent investigation into all matters so
that the facts can be revealed and those responsible can be prosecuted to the
fullest extent of the law.
