KARACHI - In a controversial revelation, a female police officer
has alleged that some police personnel in Karachi’s Napier area tried to
influence the investigation of a serious criminal case and pave the way for the
acquittal of the main accused.
According to the female officer, she was directly pressured by
some police personnel, including the DSP and the police station in charge, to
show flexibility in the investigation of the case. According to her, instead of
bowing to this pressure, she recorded the conversation and the steps taken and
sent the recording to higher-ups in the police.
The officer claims that after the higher authorities did not
respond and remained silent on the reports submitted, she decided to post the
said video on social media so that the public is aware of the details of the
incident.
According to the officer, the accused in the case is a foreigner
who entered Pakistan by sea and is accused of raping 22 girls. She also claimed
that multiple victims were murdered in the case.
The female officer also alleged that Karachi’s Napier police
station DSP Zafar Iqbal provided the accused with special facilities and privileges inside the police station and prevented a free and
thorough investigation. She says that she was repeatedly harassed, threatened
and pressured during the investigation and was asked to refrain from requesting
an extension of custody and continuation of the investigation.
The publication of these allegations has led to a massive
backlash on social media, with calls for a transparent and impartial
investigation into the veracity of these allegations.
Meanwhile, senior government officials and responsible
institutions have been asked to investigate, if the allegations are true, the
roles of all those involved in supporting the accused or obstructing the
process of justice, and to hold them accountable before the law.
Observers believe that given the sensitivity of the matter and
the seriousness of the allegations, only an independent, comprehensive, and
transparent investigation can shed light on the truth of the matter and
maintain public confidence in the law enforcement system.
