The fire at the DI Khan Customs warehouse has once again
raised several serious questions. Although the authorities are initially
investigating the incident, the available information and past revelations are
hindering the case from being dismissed as an accident.
According to sources, the bus that later caught fire was
started at around 11 am on the day of the incident and was operated
continuously till 4 pm. Surprisingly, a few hours later, the same bus caught
fire. This situation has raised several questions. The most important question
is on whose order was the bus started? Why was it necessary to operate it
continuously for five hours? Was it a routine operation or was there some other
reason behind it?
Another important aspect of the investigation is what was
the technical condition of the bus before the incident and whether the relevant
authorities had compiled any records in this regard. If the bus was being
operated as usual, then its documented details should come to light, while if
not, then it is inevitable to identify the responsible persons.
It is also worth noting that about two months ago, The
Inquirer published a news report related to the same place, alleging that confiscated cigarettes worth
crores of rupees had disappeared from the warehouse.
Several questions were raised on this issue, but so far
neither the details of the complete audit have been made public nor have there
been any reports of effective action being taken against anyone responsible in
this regard.
Local circles and some observers say that since a complete
audit of the goods and records in the warehouse has not been done yet, the
incident of fire has deepened the doubts.
According to them, this aspect should also be looked into
during the investigation as to whether any records or goods have been damaged due
to the fire, which were important for future inquiries or audits.
Moreover, if the elements responsible for any negligence or
corruption have not been held accountable effectively in past incidents, the
chances of such incidents happening again increase. This is why the demand for
a transparent, independent and impartial investigation is gaining momentum
after this latest fire so that the facts can be brought to light and the
questions in the minds of the public can be satisfactorily answered.
Concerned circles think that a thorough investigation into
the incident will not only determine the real causes of the fire but will also
clarify whether it was an accident, the result of administrative negligence or
an attempt to erase evidence of a larger issue. Until the answers to these
questions are revealed, the fire at the DI Khan Customs warehouse will remain a
mystery.
