Islamabad: According to the World Health Organization, 12.9
million people in Pakistan are suffering from hepatitis, while more than 48,000
deaths occur due to hepatitis every year.
According to the World Health Organization, one person in
Pakistan loses their life to hepatitis every 11 minutes, while the country is
among the countries most affected by hepatitis C in the world.
According to the report, 9.1 million people in Pakistan are
infected with hepatitis C and 3.8 million are infected with hepatitis B. Only 3
out of every 10 patients have access to treatment, while millions of people are
deprived of treatment.
According to the World Health Organization, unsafe
injections and unsafe blood transfusions are major causes of hepatitis spread,
while more than 88,000 new cases of hepatitis C were reported in Pakistan in
2024.
The WHO has stressed the need to accelerate measures to
achieve the goal of eliminating hepatitis by 2030. Efforts are underway to
eliminate hepatitis in Pakistan under the Prime Minister’s National Program
