Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken notice
of the non-functionality of the CT coronary angiography facility at PIMS
Hospital and has formed an inquiry committee to investigate.
The committee, formed at the Prime Minister's direction,
will be chaired by the Secretary of the Establishment Division and will include
the Secretary of Health Services, Dr. Jahanzeb Ali, Dr. Nusratullah Chaudhry,
Professor Nadeem Hayat, Dr. Azmat Hayat, and Umar Farooq.
The Prime Minister indicated that the committee will review
all aspects, determine the facts and responsibilities, and submit a report
immediately. The committee may include any additional members as needed.
The investigation will examine why the facility has not been
operational despite having the technical capacity to perform coronary computed
tomography angiography at PIMS since 2022. It will also analyze the
availability of the necessary technical facilities, human resources, and
software.
The committee will review the procedures, number, dates, and
relevant records of coronary computed tomography angiography (CTA) scans
performed at PIMS since 2022. It will also examine the referral mechanism and
the state of communication between the cardiology and radiology departments.
The investigation committee will also examine whether PIMS
patients were systematically referred to private centers for CTA scans and, if
so, whether any particular private institution was given preferential
treatment.
The committee will also determine the harm caused to the
public interest as a result of mismanagement, negligence, or poor
administration, and identify the responsible officials or offices.
The Prime Minister has directed that a report be submitted
following a thorough examination of all relevant facts and records so that
appropriate action can be taken in accordance with the law and applicable
regulations.
