Islamabad: According to data from the Federal Statistics
Office, the weekly inflation rate in the country increased by 0.15% during the
second week of August 2026, thereby reaching the annual inflation rate of
9.11%.The prices of 20 items increased during the week, those of 9 decreased,
and those of 22 remained stable.
The price of onion increased significantly by 24.68% during
the week, while that of lentils became more expensive by 3.35% and that of
chicken by 2.45%. The price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) also increased by
0.67%, and tea, mustard oil, yogurt and lentils also became more expensive.
In annual terms, the price of tomatoes increased by an
extraordinary 143.77%, while that of onions became more expensive by 125.75%
and that of wheat flour by 77.41%.
According to the Federal Statistics Office, a weekly
decrease of 2.35% was recorded in the price of gasoline, which is considered a
significant drop. The price of tomatoes decreased by 1.26%, that of potatoes by
0.73% and that of diesel by 0.29%. Bananas, mung lentils, eggs and sugar were
also among the products that became cheaper.
According to the report, during the year, the price of LPG
increased by 55.41%, that of diesel by 34.05% and that of gasoline by 23.02%,
while the prices of bananas, chili powder, lamb and beef also recorded
double-digit increases.
In annual terms, the price of potatoes decreased by 30%,
while sugar became cheaper by 17.93% and chicken by 17.45%. Prices of
chickpeas, eggs and lentils also recorded an annual decline.
