Islamabad: Defense Minister Khawaja Asif described the
bureaucracy as the true and permanent ruler of Pakistan, stating that in the
country's 78-year history, politicians and other ruling classes have been held
accountable, but the bureaucracy has never been held accountable in this way.
Sharing a post about the alleged financial corruption of a
senior official, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif stated that there are countless
examples of accountability by politicians in Pakistan's history, as well as
some examples from other ruling classes, but it is difficult to find examples
of accountability by the bureaucracy.
Referring to a bureaucrat who governed in the past, Khawaja
Asif said that he used to use very offensive language toward politicians, and
that they tolerated it. If one includes bureaucratic ministers and advisors
over the past 78 years, their number is also very high.
The Minister of Defense stated that if the bureaucracy has
become an uncontrollable class and no one holds it accountable, then the
politicians and their weaknesses are the true culprits, while the bureaucrats
are merely actors who benefit from this situation.
He added that in the 1970s, the nationalization policy was
adopted, and the bureaucracy took control of all the country's companies, after
which the nationalized assets were destroyed, but no government has challenged
these powerful and irresponsible elements.
Khawaja Asif stated that if the losses due to
nationalization are estimated, they will turn out to be greater than the fall
of Dhaka. It is even possible that the figure in the calculation of these losses
will be lower. The current government is pushing forward the privatization
program, and he prays for its success.
He stated that Nawaz Sharif was the first ruler to
successfully attempt to reverse the devastation caused by nationalization in
the country, while Shaheed Benazir Bhutto also pursued this process, but it
subsequently stalled as the entrenched ruling bureaucracy created obstacles to
these efforts. However, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is focusing on
privatization and hopes this effort will succeed.
He asserted that wealthy individuals connected to the
Pakistani bureaucracy are present in Portugal, Canada, the United States, Great
Britain, and Pakistan, and that these individuals are among those who directly
benefit from the politicians' lack of vision.
Recounting an incident involving a former governor-general,
the Defense Minister said that this governor-general suffered a stroke, after
which, whenever politicians visited him, he used highly offensive language, but
the politicians did not understand him.
