The Spanish government has recalled its ambassador from
Israel, which was confirmed in the official gazette.
According to a foreign news agency, the Spanish Foreign
Ministry said that the Spanish embassy in Tel Aviv will now operate under the
leadership of a chargé d’affaires. Spain established diplomatic relations with
Israel in 1986, but relations between the two countries have been tense. Spain
has also strongly opposed US and Israeli attacks on Iran, including the Gaza
war.
Yesterday, the Spanish Foreign Minister said that despite US
President Donald Trump’s threats of trade sanctions over his opposition to the
US and Israeli war against Iran, relations between Spain and the US are
continuing as normal.
Last week, the government of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro
Sanchez opposed the war against Iran, calling it illegal and also preventing US
aircraft from using joint military bases in southern Spain for operations
against Iran.
