Gujarat: Due to heavy monsoon rains, water entered several barracks of District Jail Gujarat, after which the jail administration shifted 253 prisoners to jails in different districts as a precautionary measure.
According to jail officials, 196 prisoners from the affected
barracks were shifted to District Jail Hafizabad while 57 prisoners were
shifted to District Jail Jhelum. He said that the decision to shift the
prisoners was taken to prevent rainwater from entering the jail and to ensure
the safety of the prisoners.
Officials said that last year District Jail Gujrat was
affected during heavy rains as well, due to which prisoners had to be
temporarily shifted to jails in other districts.
The jail administration is continuously monitoring the
situation and other safety measures, including water drainage, are underway.
